    So who likes using Push-To-Talk(PTT)?

I had Nextel but hated the fact that their rates are too high. Also when I was using their service, the PTT was only limited to my local calling area. Until they decided to make it naionwide in 2003. Well Sprint has some phones that is PTT enabled, but I'm not a big CDMA fan. So I was waiting for GSM companies to release a PTT enabled phone and finally Nokia has done so...

    Nokia 6260

Motorola developed a V400 PTT phone, but that hasn't hit the market yet. I was only able to see the demo version with full functionality. So I'm stuck with this Nokia on the Cingular network. If this works, I'm going to recommend this phone to some of my friends that want PTT.

I'm sick of Nextel, text messages take several hours, and for the cost, it's no longer worth it to me

i thnk push to talk is pointless, pick up the phone and call someone..... unless you know a ton of people with that service, and you dont pay for normal minutes, then i guess it would be ok...

By PTT do you mean DC? If so, I know that before 2003 you could use that nationwide.

i was able to use the ptt/dc nationwide prior to 2003. My dad would go all the way to texas and all and ptt/dc me and i wouldn't have a problem. But until recently now they made it nationwide dc which i believe costs .10/min or so unless you got some kind of nationwide dc plan. I even got charged for international DC once when my dad was in Mexico. still wasn't expensive or anything.

out of almost 300 people stoage capacity, i have 80 spots left open...i know ALOT of people on nextel...i would not change out to another carrier seeing i have unlimited 2 way...my dc is close in minutes to my cell time...so i save $$$
You dont like me....i dont give a fuck...cause i'll still put ya in the hospital...me tollerating you is all that matters...

text messaging is basic/sucky on my (old) nextel (i80) but i never paid extra for any features (or cared.) DC is great never had a problem nationwide, the phone almost always works, and i think it's cool when i'm somewhere where nextel's work and nobody else's does. elevators, basements, often the only thing i hear ringing is a nextel. i got mine the day after my started my current job, got a call in the basement where we were training. everybody else was like WTFsignal? and i was like ROFL4bars! i pay 63 a month. phone worked poorly at my home home, but not my new house. regardless it's old, and LG just came out with a really nice camera phone (1.3MP, pics are amazing) and i'd like to push my bills down to 40 a month. so likely this weekend i'll be signing up for verizon, some 40/mo plan i hope, 2-yr contract and picking up the LG VX8000 for $200.
i don't understand the draw of cingular/sprint/t-mobile at all, nextel and verizon are usually rated very highly and neck and neck for things, while every other service is just clumped into an all others, all behind.

It's soo much easier to use DC for short conversations instead of calling everytime. Like if your meeting somewhere, or just gotta ask them a quick question, it's soo much easier and more convienent

    Um... from my experience:

    2 years ago:
    verizon=cingular>nextel

    now:
    cingular>verizon>nextel

Nextel has horrible service. I have 3 people i know with it and all of them complain of having no service in downtown Chicago (especially on UIC's campus). I tried calling a kid earlier today actually with Nextel and he "couldn't be located." Cingular and Verizon used to be equal in my hometown (verizon had great service in the actual town but horrible service at my house in the country, cingular was the opposite) but now Cingular put up a new tower and my whole family is switching.

well that may be from your experience but definately not the whole. in consumer ratings for as long as i can remember nextel has been up there. the last big rating had nextel and verizon pretty much neck and neck. i never had a problem with my nextel downtown, even when i was working in the basement. i have gotten the couldn't be located calling people from probably every service, i don't think that is a company specific thing?

i picked up verizon today with an LG VS8000. i don't get into phones that much but this one is neat. need to find a cable so i can grab the pics off it, paying to mail myself them sounds like a lame idea to me. i spoke to the salesguy about their version of PTT and they don't even push it anymore. he says it's super slow and hesitates, basically it's a piece. nextel's is near instant, and whatever sprint is working on is doing a decent job, but for verizon they have pretty much gone back to the drawing board on it right now.

btw in my new house - verizon antenna down or up i am currently getting 2-3 bars, phones are on my bed next to the computers. nextel antenna down is getting 5 bars strong. heh! too bad she will be dead by tomorrow.

You don't even have to hear them though, people can always turn the DC speaker off, but a lot of them choose not too. I usually just keep it low so only I can hear it, I only put the speaker off if I don't want people eavesdropping. But yeah it is annoying when they have the speaker volume turned all the way up.

That was my old Motorola E398. It was a GSM quadband must have multimedia phone. One of the first few phones to have a expansion memory slot and stereo speakes w/ 3D sound. I was able to listem to MP3's and watch videos from it. Great phone overall!
