    What Shop?

hey guys i got a buddy who needs some electrical work on his Honda del sol(yeah i know but hes cool). ok the story is: he plugged his cell phone into the cig lighter and poof! a shit ton a smoke started billowing out of the dash. the verdict...a completly fryed and melted electrical system, were talkin ignition, everythin. mechanic says the damage is in the 2500-3000$ range. well if anyone knows of some good shops that do electrical for hondas/acuras in the chicagoland area it would be greatly appreciated. he said he'll even go as north as the wisconsin boarder for the job to get done. p.s. its got an acura gsr engine. thanks guys

The whole thing cannot be completely fried that easily. There are plenty of fail-safes involved in most cars systems. Find out what needs to replaced, then go to a junkyard...and replace.

Unfortunately, most shops locally, that I know of, do not know jack shit about electronics. I lost count of how many shop hack wiring jobs I saw when I worked as an audio/alarm installer.

$2500 is a bit excessive. Their labor rate must be through the roof.

2500 seems steep Definately go with a stock harness, I agree there are way too many hacks out there when it comes to wiring - circuit city best buy The problem with wiring is that it is every where and if it involves the fuse block you can run into other problems as well.

i would suggest going to a dealership just to get a quote on it possibly they might be able to give you a solid estimate? usually when it comes to wiring and electrical stuff i take my vehicles to the dealership since they are experts on that electronical department but well thats a personal preffrence plus it warrentied for about 4-5 years or whatever.

    I can fix it.
(Former del sol owner and engine swap expert.)
I'd have to come out and inspect it first. See if he wants to take the dash out or just have me do it on the spot.
If the wiring damage is very extensive I'll want it towed to the northside of chicago so i can work on it. I take it the car doesn't run?
Private message me with your buddies contact info and I'll give him a call
