    Mountain Bikes

I am looking to get a mountain bike. I went with friend to go around to some shops and a lot of places sell GT and Schwinn which I guess "suck" now. My friend is recommending that I get a Haro but I don't know.

What is a good bike? I know you have sit on them and ride them to see how they are.

How are the Mongoose bikes? Or jeep? What makes them good or bad? Isn't all the same just the name is different?

Who said GT's suck??? I have owned a few GT mountain bikes and have never had any problems with them, even riding rough terrain.

GT was close to bankrupt in '98 (due to Giant, Pacific, other chinese mfgs), got bought by Questor (who bought Schwinn in '97 - a shame really). Then Questor Fund was about to declare Chap 11, and was bought up by Pacific Cycles in WI. Pacific Cycles also bought the Mongoose / Roadmaster back in '01. Last I heard, Pacific Cycles is also in financial troubles (it was bought by a Canuk firm "Dorel in '02)...

Of US Brands, only Trek and C'dale have survived the onslaught of cheap Chinese bikes. Otherwise, Giant OWNS the bicycle world as far as market sales is concerned. And no, not all of their products are expensive. You can get something like a 'Rincon' for like.. $250. It'll be stuffed w/ crap but... it's not expensive

I owned a first gen GT Timberland, then followed by a Mt. Shasta (subsid of GT back then). Also had a circa '80 Giant BMX bike (Giant was founded in '72 in Taiwan). Now... C'dales own you
