| Close One! So I leave work today knowing that I have maybe enough gas to get me where I need to go. Thinking I might have to stop. I get half way there and realize I am going to be fine. I figured that I would just stop some where on the way home and fuel up. No biggy!
Now maybe I didn't notice it on the way there. I might have had the music up, or might not have been paying attention to it and just didn't notice but. . Upon leaving at 1 something in the morning. . . I get in my car and pull down the road. I don't even get to the first stop sign, in the long journey home, and the gas light comes on. When leaving at 1 something in the morning I came to the realization that there were no open gas stations any where on the way. . For some reason I have this thing about back tracking. I just can't do it. . . So, I kept driving. I figured the light just came on, and I must have a lil bit of time before I ran out of gas. . Even though I was driving somewhere I am still not familiar with, I'm sure I will see some where to stop.
Well I couldn't find a gas station. So I'm driving, freaking myself out. At the same time telling myself "No you'll be ok! You won't run out of gas"
Finally I get to a road that sounds familiar to me. . I get off the highway, and see a gas station lights glowing in the distance. Yeah! I stopped at the stop light. When the light turned green, I hit the gas, and the car rolled. .
I had run out of gas. . . Some one was watching though cause I rolled right into the gas station, and right up to the pump. . Ugh, close one right? |

| that's crazy. glad that you made it though. just barely. lol. i remember this one time with my civic. i knew i had a couple gallons or so left in the civic, and i was at my friends house. well when it came time for me to leave, the car wouldn't start. seems like i ran out of gas. but the funny thing is that i wasn't near what i usually tend to get on the tank. just this last time before i filled up, i got exactly 376 miles to that tank, and i know i could have gotten about 380ish. but oh well. |

| The best part about it was that if anything was to happen. Or if I needed "HIM" for anything I was supposed to call. . Being that I was dead tire and wouldn't be getting home until 2ish he was a little concered about me driving all the way home. .
I was all nervous, so I call "him" just to have him talk with me cause I was all scared, and the phone goes straight to voicemail. . Damn Nextel's!
I think it would have been pretty funny if I had run out of gas, if He hadn't answered the phone! Funny for me, but I probably would have been a lil ticked off at him. . hahah |

| Why would you run it that low in the first place.
First off..thats just baaaaad. Bad for the car!
When you run that low, you end up sucking all the gunk up in the bottom of the tank, and thats not good for the fuel filter/engine.
You should NEVER run your car that low.
Sheesh! Live large!!..and keep at least a 1/4 tank in there. |

i wouldn't worry that as much as i would be about over heating the fuel pump and injectors. |

Sheesh! Live large!!..and keep at least a 1/4 tank in there. | hold on a second... how does it matter if you're running it low? Doesn't the "gunk" still get sucked up anyway? Doesn't really make much sense for a gas tank to suck from the TOP of the tank... then you'd never get any gas... kind of like drinking from a cup that's too big for a straw... coming from the top, means you'd never GET to the bottom....

no it does suck from the bottem, but as the fuel level gets low the shit that floats in the tank now is at the sucking point. its a not really that big of a worry as it it over heating the fuel pump, which WILL happen. |

Because I'd think if it's "gunk".... then it would sink eventually... and when you start up in the morning, lets say, it's getting sucked up anyway...
but I know fuck all about cars anyway... so it's just a question...
I've had a few close calls myself, and my car is currently a kunt hair above empty right now... Ha!

Normaly I don't run it low like that, as soon as the gas light comes on or right before I stop and fill up. . .But I had plans, and didn't figure on being out so late on Friday night. . Oh well.
I never heard of it being bad for the car though. I guess I will have to keep that in mind.
You know my uncle once told me that a car is able to run on fumes for, (I dont' remember how many miles) but for at least a couple. . Is that true? |
