Yesterday we were down at my dads celebrating my brothers birthday. now my dads house faces Reed rd, which is a main back country road, bikers often fly down their usually on their way to starved rock.
so anyway we're all outside, family is under the gazeebo and i was walking out of the garage when we heard a loud smack. right as i walked outa the garage i see my uncle TRUCKIN across the yard toward the street, and my dad run into the house. as i run out my other uncles were already on their way across the yard (about 120yards long) and i started following, untill i saw a harley laying right infront of the house. then i noticed my uncle kneeled down by the guard rail and i see a guy laying thier against the guard rail, over 100 yards from the bike. i was standing about 25 yards away, my uncle who is an volunteer EMT and a firefighter at that point checked the guys pulse and looked at my dad and shook his head no, guy was dead right thier before the parametics got their.
basically what happend, a truck pulled out infront of him from a sidestreet and the biker tried to get around the truck since he had no time to stop and clipped it with either his handle bar or his shoulder. it threw him from the bike across the left side of the road and he wrapped him around one of the posts under the guard rail, which broke his collar bone and severed i guess one of the major tendons or something.
Seeing something like that first hand makes you think about lots of shit. the biggest thing was how proud i was of my uncle, the way he handled the situation. gives me a whole new respect for both him and everyone else that attends to stuff like that.
Definetly makes me pay much better attention when theirs bikes riding around me. 1 small mistake could take a life. Guy was a full blown biker though, had his vest which was full of patches and what not, his bike was flammed up and all dolled out, older guy, one good way of lookin at it was atleast his last moments were spent riding his bike.
oh my god, that is horrible.
every time i hear something like this, it makes me not want to ride ever again. people are way too concerned about changing the radio station or getting to the next light 10 seconds before me to wait WITH me that they never notice where i am. just today, some lady actually turned around to see me in her blind spot as i was passing by her and aborted her lane change. with that, she likely saved my life. i just began to think after i passed her that had she not loked, would she have pulled into my lane as im going 55mph??
i'm sorry to hear that you witnessed a man's death.

Bad deal, hope he was saved,if not--well----------.When it's my time to go I just hope it's on a nice smooth, shady road, in the country. On the selfish side, don't want to see it coming. I just want to see what heaven is all about next.
