WOW... if you're someone who doesn't already exercise regularly... the HIIT is definately intense. It didn't seem too bad while i was doing it, but it took me a good 30 minutes afterwards to "recover" and get my heartrate back down to normal. I knew i wasn't in the greatest shape to begin with but this thing tore me a new asshole. To benefit from it you really should put the whole "90%" into it though and work your ass off. That's what i just did, kept moving as fast as my legs would allow during the sprints and then did about half that intensity level for the jogs. I had to take a 30 second walk in the middle too, but i think i did pretty good considering the last time i "worked out" was 3-4 years ago in high school.

burning MORE calories than YOU TAKE in is whats its all about.
Chances are you have pretty good genetics. I know some people can cut while eating poop, but its a lot easier (imo) to do it while having a good diet.

He was not a very big dude to begin with, so 40lbs is a pretty big deal!

Losing a gut is more diet than exercise. Lots of small meals throughout the day. You should never finish a meal feeling full and satisfied. It sucks, but that's the truth.

EDIT: If you can't finish a meal without feeling full, drink a ton of water with your meal.

I'm not saying bowflex is worthless. I'm saying it'd be money better spent at the gym. i'm convinced that free weights > *. Squats, Deadlifts, Pullups and Dips. I dont see how you're going to do that with bowflex and those exercises do amazing things for muscle building.

Diet + Exercise = Body Transformation

If you already have bowflex then sure go ahead and use it. If you're think of buying it i still think gym would be a better idea.

If your diet is good (no alky, etc) and you dont have any kind of medical conditions that would prevent you from using it then you may want to consider ephedrine + cafeene stack (E/C). It helps a lot with fat burning if that is your goal.

Here's another good page on HIIT http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp it's a bit more lengthy but provides a chart for an "8 week schedule." This is what i'm going to go by, except next time i need to do more of a warmup. I pretty much just jogged 1/4 of a block and then went straight into it today... i did stretch afterwards though.
