Dodge Caliber SRT4 boosts 300 hp !!

The outgoing Neon SRT-4 was a pocket rocket. Now as Neon has been replaced by Caliber, the new SRT4 is also revealed. At a glance, the Caliber SRT4 seems using the same engine as its predecessor - both of them are turbocharged 2.4-litre four-pot, but in fact they have no relationship at all. Like the regular Caliber, the new SRT4 employs the new World Engine jointly developed by Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai. It differs from the old Mitsubishi-based engine by using all aluminum construction, twin-cam, dual VVT and twin-balancer shafts. A turbocharger and intercooler boosts its power to an astonishing 300hp at 6000rpm, while a flat torque curve returns 260 lbft continuously from 2000 to 6000rpm. This is far more than Neon SRT-4 (215hp initially, then upgraded to 230hp finally).
The new engine mates with a 6-speed gearbox instead of the previous 5-speeder. Best of all, it finally got a limited-slip differential to help transferring the power through its front wheels to the road. Yes, this is the most powerful front-drive hot hatch in the world. For comparison, Alfa Romeo 147GTA has "only" 250hp.
Brakes are equally impressive because they come from the 300C Hemi. The front discs measure 340mm diameter while the rear discs measure 302mm. 19-inch wheels are shod with 225/45 tires.
At 1447kg, Caliber SRT4 is about 100kg heavier than its predecessor, but its superior power allows it to do 0-60 in just 5.9 seconds. Nevertheless, top speed is likely to be compromised by the horrible Cd of 0.40.

Personally don't like the looks of the car at all, but the engine is gonna be sweet me thinks!

New Powertrain for New Dodge Caliber
15 August 2005: USA - Confirming production of the new Dodge Caliber, the Chrysler Group recently announced that the powertrain choices for the vehicle will be engineered to meet the demands of customers worldwide. The Dodge Caliber will feature innovative engines and transmissions to deliver improved performance, fuel economy and refinement.
New-generation continuously variable transmission, CVT2, will give Dodge Caliber customers improved performance and fuel economy."The all-new Dodge Caliber will be the first Chrysler Group vehicle to offer the World Engine family of four-cylinder gasoline engines, a new 2.0-liter diesel engine and a continuously variable transmission," said Eric Ridenour, Executive Vice President – Product Development, Chrysler Group.
Because fuel economy is a key factor in the four-cylinder market, the Chrysler Group World Engine line is targeted to improve fuel efficiency by five percent compared with the engines they replace.
"The engines will be built through a joint venture, and simply stated, the World Engine program allows us to build premium features into our engines without a premium price," continued Ridenour.
Chrysler Group brought its engineering expertise to the World Engine program in the areas of cylinder port and intake manifold design using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics tools. Its engineers led the development work on dual variable valve timing (VVT), as well as an integrated 2:1 oil pump/balance shaft assembly. Chrysler Group also refined the engines for exceptional smoothness and sound quality – resulting in a pleasant engine feel and sound for the customer.
The Dodge Caliber will be available with all three displacements in the World Engine family: 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter, and 2.4-liter. Performance objectives are targeted to match the best in the segment – 140, 150 and 170 hp (SAE), respectively. For Europe and other diesel markets, the all-new Dodge Caliber will also be available with an advanced 2.0-liter turbo diesel.
The Dodge Caliber will be produced for markets around the world, making it the first of the new Dodge vehicles leading the brand’s expansion to Europe and other volume markets outside of North America starting in 2006.
I cant stand the way that thing looks and theres no way its gonna hang with modded out EVOs
looks retarded. I want the new honda FIT with a k20 on boost
No, I think not. Japan's got that market down. Until America starts playing by Japan's rules and building their cars to the proper spec, I wouldn't consider their cars of the same category. Also, building them to that spec will never happen because Japan would demolish them anyway.![]()

saw that var at the auto show... they are teally trying to appeal to the younger market... 1 thing that they have is, once you open the hatch you can pop down a set of speakers to face the rear off the hatch back... looks kinda weak for my taste... plus the head room is kinda small for my taste, i'm only 6' and i have less than half the head room in that car than mine... the guy said they do have a 4wd version but it's not the 300hp engine version... oh well
impressive stuff for a lil car, i dont mind its looks, wouldn't mind seeing those driven around
Ugly as hell but i wonder what kinda potential that motor has? Itll never realize all its potential cause its wrong wheel drive, but thats alotta torque across a very wide RPM range, that thing should be a blast to drive. As ugly as it is, id still rather be seen in that then a foreign POS.
