| What diet would best fit me? I want to start dieting, I think I eat way to much junk food. I love chicken and seafood, rice, I LOVE salads and any veggies.. but I'm always snacking in between meals. Chips, candy ect I love fried foods and french fries and all the stuff thats bad for you. The problem is that when I eat meals I always drench my food in sauce.. bbq, honey mustard, ketchup. I eat salads all the time but I cover it in ranch or HM. It just seems as every time I diet I always deprive myself from carbs and I always fail.. whats the best way to balance it out? |

| Going 'on a diet' is a bad choice in general. As corny as it sounds, the 'lifestyle change' cliche is pretty much on. Aim to switch to cleaner foods permanently, otherwise when you go off your diet you'll simply return to your previous state.
Slowly cleaning up your diet and substituting better choices are your best bet and most attainable goals. Instead of removing carbs, you'll normally be better off focusing on upping protein.
An example: Chicken sandwich with fries (standard order for lots of people). Most people eat most of the sandwich and all of the fries. Simply making sure you eat all of the sandwich tends to leave you full before you finish the fries. Total macronutrient profile of the meal looks a lot better though.
Salads: A lot of people seem to think salads are healthy simply because they are salads. Meanwhile they are eating iceberg lettuce (zero nutritional value) with extra dressing. A lot of the salads are actually worse than a decent (read non McD's) hamburger in terms of calories, fat, and carbs.
Try to focus on oatmeal, brown rice, and sweet potatoes for carbs, and chicken and fish for protein. Should be a good start and general focus. |

| you look great you don't need to lose any weight. eating healthier is always a good goal though... i am telling myself i'll start jogging when it's warmer but for now i am just changing what i eat. if you just cut out crap one by one i think it's an easier transition...
instead of pop i drink water or lemonade. the lemonade is probably not that much better than the pop though. it's been long enough that if i drink 2 cans of pop now it makes me feel sick.
i'm trying to give up fast food... although i don't really count something like a sandwhich shop for that. but bk/wendy's/taco bell/etc. instead of grab one of these on the way home from schaumburg i'll just call a friend and go out to eat somewhere where i can get something better, that's more expensive though... other days i buy stuff on the way home and make it. although my cooking abilities are limited to a short list of things though!! i've only had fast food once in the past 3 weeks.
instead of snacking on candy get some fruit... apple pear kiwi whatever. i bring these to work now and force myself to go for them if i get a craving for a snickers or something instead! |
