I'd only use it when claying the car.
In which you're probably going to buff the car since you're putting that much work into it anyways.

BOTH of my hatch hoods became oxidized, and I never used dishwashing soap.

I think it's coz my motor was beastly, and gave off more heat than the little hood could handle. Yes. rawr.

No! Okay, take it from the kid whos cleaned way to many college apartments and knows all about cleaning or just look at it this way...

Dishsoap has degreaser in it. It breaks down anything greasy or waxy. It's terrible for you clear coat. You car will fade an bubble if you do it too long. I have tried to explain this to my dad for years even though the clear coat on my mom's car is totally bubbled up.

Dishsoap can be handy though if you are removing glue/residue from decals but you need to wax the car right afterwards.

But no, and it makes bad bodywash too..haha

false answer...there are several reasons for the oxidation on cars like that...

#1 reason was the hood was repainted due to some sort of damage...what happens is that some shops use whats called a 1 step process of painting the car in which the clear coat is included with the paint...that is the main cause...

if you EVER want your car done right, always tell hem you want a 2 step process in which the paint is applied and then after suffecent dry time, they then spray clear...the clear should be a MINIMUM of 2-3 coats for sufficent coverage...it protects against the worst of the worst rock chips...

Judging by everyone's comments... which I read after I voted... I suck.

Damnit, this is why I always failed multiple choice tests! I always read the question wrong or interpret it in the wrong way.

BTW, dishwashing soap and coffee filters with a little spritz of Windex works GREAT on your windows and mirrors! Gets all that film off that you see when the sun is glaring across the windshield.

(not the Cascade dishwashing soap you put in the dishwasher, but the kind you use for hand washing dishes in the sink)

I duct tape an electrosol tab w/ jetdry ball to the bumper and head for the automatic car wash.

I use penut butter (Crunchy or creamy) to remove the sap and tar. it doesn't hurt the paint as much as dish soap.

I've used dishsoap on my caprice numerous times. Other than the monds of rust (unrelated), the paint itself is pretty decent.

You can do it as an initial wash before a detail job to, as others have said, strip off old waxes, etc., but there are so many products out there made for this and made for automotive use that dishwashing soap should be left in the kitchen... along with simple green, etc.

You should definitely not wash the car when doing weekly (or whatever interval) maintenance washes as it does strip wax
