What program to use for Video Editing and Compress

Took a couple vids with my camera last night, had the quality set at 30fps, and got about 400-500 mb worth of footage from 4 clips.

I tried using Windows Movie maker, but it didnt support .mov format. Which is what my camera records in.

So what other kind of programs can i use to edit/splice and combine clips and then finally to compress it so its small enough to upload online.

Now you know why I use what I do.

For PC, I heard good stuff about 'Vegas'. Maybe that's more up your alley.
