safety equipment

Just wanted to put a feeler out there - where do you strip and autox/roadcourse guys get your equipment?

I'm going to need a decent helmet for next season (kirk as well) ... anyone know of a place to get good deals on brain buckets?

along the same lines, i'd like to know if anyone has a good place they trust for on-car welding. I've got some things that will need reinforcing soon (swaybar link mounting tabs, various other parts) and will need a welder's help.

i've been to northstar motorsports - they were the only local carrier for the Recaro slider bracket I needed for my seat. Nice shop, and good people for sure, but WAY the hell out there - its actually in Lake Barrington, even further away from everything else

I'd also highly recommend getting some 4-point harnesses.
You won't believe the difference it makes when you're throwing the car around. Since you're so tightly secured to the seat, you're more in touch with the motion of the car.

In terms of getting a set though... can't really help you there. I paid a premium at Car Boutique for mine. I wouldn't suggest going there.

I've thought about harnesses too - and believe me i totally understand their usefulness... but i'd hate to deal with them day-to-day. i've considered the Schroth clipins, but they're kinda $.

Actually, if you set them up like I did, you won't have to deal with them everyday. Leave your normal seatbelt setup intact and just arrange the harnesses so that you can push them aside for a regular drive.

thought about that too. the other problem is that i often use my back seat for passengers, and harnesses would get in the way; also I don't have an appropriate harness bar to attach to.

That's true. Back seat passengers was a problem I had as well. Simple solution - take out the back seat and call it a two-seater!
