'90 TSi rebuild

How much do you guys think it would cost to get the engine rebuilt for this car?? The motor has bent valves from a broken timing belt so it probably needs new pistons too..

The parts can be had for pretty cheap, it just depends on whether or not he wants to do it right.

Here we go:
Since it's a '90, it has the 1g "big rods" and have been known to handle well over 400whp. So, just have them shot-peened and that takes care of the rods. He may as well throw in some ARP rod bolts, too.

Bearings, well the main stays are Clevite or ACL for DSMs.

Pistons, well if he's not looking to go buck-wild, I would suggest some 2g pistons. Those, matched with the 1g big rods is an awesome combination. The 2g pistons have an 8:5.1 ratio. All that is needed is to have the rods bored out to accept the larger wrist pins of the 2g pistons.

Headgasket, MLS, no doubt. OEM multi-layer. Edit: Of course some ARP head studs!

While you're down there (short-block) replace the oil pump, too.

As far as the valves, there's nothing wrong with the stock ones. Unless he's building a monster.

Many websites offer head packages; however, if he wants to build the head, some HKS, Comp, or Crower cams are the way to go. Matched with the proper springs and retainers which all three companies I mentioned make to match their cams.

Again, while you're up there (head) replace the water pump and all timing components. Tensioner, pullies, etc...

The first two sites are great for buying OEM, STAY OEM FOR MAITAINECE!!!

lol, thanks reggie, i'm sure he'd like all that, but for now he just wants a stock as stock can be, rebuild... if a 2g piston is cheaper to get, that's cool, but stock is perfectly fine for him, the cheaper the better

Well then that's easier. If he wants to keep it stock, just replace the pistons with the 1g ones. No biggie. Valves, well stock then. The sites I gave you offer all he will need. AMS not so much on the OEM stuff.

Still do all the maitence I spoke of and keep OEM. Like I need to explain why. Oh, and I don't care, still do Clevite bearings and ARP hardware with the MLS head gasket. So worth it.

what's the cheapest it would cost for a rebuilt engine? or how about after a few upgrade parts? i don't think he'll be pushing it too far, and cheap is what is in his budget. as long as it performs, cheapest is what he wants

OEM valves= $100 for all 16.

OEM valve stem seals=$30 for all 16.

OEM 6-bolt pistons with rings and wrist pins=$200 for all 4. Same price all the way to 0.30 over.

Topline valve guide seas=$8 each. I can't find the OEM ones.

OEM felt head gasket=$49/metal=$94

OEM water pump=$130

OEM oil pump/fromt cover=$258+$40 for gears

Timing belt and acc.=$220 for everything. Pullies and tensioner.

OEM balance shaft elimanator kit=$42 I recomend this for sure since it runs with the timing belt. If the balance shaft belt breaks, so does the timing belt... again.

I think that should be about it. Then whatever machining will cost.

well, i got a jdm motor to replace my motor in my 95 galant for 900 bucks...my belt let loose on easter sunday and bent only 1 valve going 65 on 355 and then it let loose...but i also damaged my internal balancer also which trashed most of the motor...even after replacing the head and both belts and valve...after getting the car running, it was still ticking HARD like a mofo...

so i got a hook up through my mechanic whos got an "in" with motors...which is how i got it for 900 COMPLETE...me and him did labor on the side...if ya want his #, let me know...i had no time to work on my car and he did all the work for me...it was a used motor with 40k on it...but hey...for 900 bucks...i could not go wrong...

BRO. a 4g63 can be bought for under 2k IN CHICAGO!. Give me a call and I will tell you of two places. My buddy will rebuild your for cheap if you supply parts also.

Place #1: SOKO Motors.

Place #2:
Eric Japan Engines Inc.
John Lin
3900 N. Elston Ave.
Chicago,IL 60618

My quote for a jdm 4g63t (40,000k): $1350 for actuall motor (plus $,1000 to have it installed). My buddy does the install for $500. Don't go and pay 3k for a stock motor
