| Need internet service help Since everyone was helpful in my request for Laptop knowledge, I figured I would ask this here too.
Basically, I bought a laptop for myself for x-mas...it is a Toshiba A105-S2194 (or something like that) Anyway, I don't currently own a computer so I need to get setup with some internet service. I plan on using AT&T (pretty much because it is cheap and I have a lot of AT&T stuff already) But my question is what does "Upstream" and "Downstream" refer to? There are two packages on AT&T.com that I am looking at...one for 14.99, the other 19.99. The only difference is that the 14.99 upstream is 128Kbps, downstream is 384-768Kbps. The 19.99 upstream is 128-384 Kbps and downstream is 384kbps -1.5Mbps. I'll assume that it all has to do with connection speed, but is it worth it? Should I save my 5 bux a month or get the better package? I am just looking to surf the net, photos, that sort of thing....
Sorry for the long post, but I don't know crap about computers and need all the help I can get... |

| unless you are planning on heavy web use/intensive gaming online - go with the cheaper package.
i could still go into the whole up/downstream thing if you really want, but it sounds like for your needs, the cheaper package will be just fine.

| the cheaper one isnt all that bad especially for what you need to do. Unless you are doing some heavy streaming, downloading huge files or anything like that then you dont need anything faster. I wonder if you could always upgrade if it doesnt fit your needs. |

| i'll agree with the other guys. if you plan on downloading a lot of music then i suggest getting the 19.99/month plan.
i have either the pro or the elite package...i forget which one. but i couldn't be happier (unless i go faster ) haha. |

| do the cheaper pkg. but remember that it has to tack onto a telephone line.
I was doing DSL for a while but then I was like...why am I paying for DSL, a phone landline, cable TV....when I could just pay for cableTV and cableModem.
