| check engine / sercvice engine lamp after messing around okay, yesterday in the snow at the local mall, i was (i admit..) screwing around in the snow, goin like 35-40 in a big open parking lot, jackin on the e-brake, tossin the car around pretty good, learnin how she'll handle as i've never really had this car cut the ass end loose before, so i wanted to know. I was having fun for about 30 minutes doing that, and then I was leaving the parking lots I was doing it in, b then blip! check engine light pops on.. The car instantly after that, felt like it had much less power.. the engine heat was poppin up around 200-210, normally sits at 170-180, even though i know it's not precise, it's pretty close. I'm worried because the car is less 'oomph' y off the line now.. takes longer to get accellerating, and it has dramatically less performance.. I'm tossing the idea out that I might have damaged the catalytic convertor? I've heard stories at bonnevilleclub of a catalytic convertor plugging up and performance drops dramatically.. it's been rattling for quite some time, i've been overlooking that since there's not alot of funding, but could this be what's doing it?
is the only way to be positive to get a scan tool on her and check the stored codes ? i went to autozone and the guy was like 'i can't get in..'
"why not???"
'there's a plastic cover over it, i can't get my arm in far enough to get to it.'
"okay, thanks anyhow"
the shop i work at is booked , i don't honestly remember how to work the scantool they have, which we have at school, one of the snap-on ones.. i'm going to try to scan it tonight at work before i clock in to figure out this mess.. Meanwhile, the car runs perfectly, just doesn't have the power band it did before yesterday afternoon.. any help is very very much appreciated and will be taken into consideration. i'm freaked out. the car has sat all night, the light still popped on when i started the car just now to check it before school.. so i'm not even sure.
thanks,
