Carroll Shelby sells own car for 5.5 Mil

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16745031/

Quote:
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - An 800-horsepower Shelby Cobra, once the personal car of the racing veteran who developed the iconic vehicle, has sold for $5.5 million at auction, a record for an American car.

The sale of the 1966 Shelby Cobra "Super Snake" brought a packed house to its feet Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction after a pair of bidders drove the price up.

Carroll Shelby, 84, who created the Cobra in the '60s using Ford engines and a British sport car chassis, said he built the Super Snake -- with twin superchargers on a 427 cubic inch V-8 -- and drove it for years.

that is insane

my dads friend put Yanko Camaro (100% perfect/original condition and kick ass car) through that auction at the same time and only got $167K, he was is super pissed. He didn't think that he needed to put a reserve on it. Its worth about $400K.

LOL

It's a Yenko (with an 'e') btw.

And yes, Carroll Shelby virtually is Jesus in the world of the automobile.

Isn't the first time he has done this, VOLO owns 2 of his personal shelby's, his own custom mid 60's stang and an EXP 500, neither of which sold for near that combined im sure.

Is this is highest winning bid for B-J now?
