Important News about Chicago Velocity

Hi everyone.

Some of you may have noticed that I am a new Administrator on the site. I thought this would be a good time to explain why and what is going on.

Long story short, I have purchased Chicago Velocity from Ryan.

First, let me assure you. The current moderation staff will all remain. Nothing will change as far as that is concerned. Ryan is still here, and still an admin.

I purchased Chicago Velocity because I see so much potential in this site, and I believe I can help the site realize that potential.

Ryan sold it to me because he believes the same thing, but he doesnt have the time to make Chicago Velocity all that it can be.

Ok - So... A little about me.

I am born and raised in the Chicago area, I currently live in Villa Park. (a Western suburb for you City Dwellers)

I own a number of websites including I own many more - too many to list really. About 50 in all. All kinds of sites from my Personal Blog, Joeychgo.com to sites about Credit Cards and Mortgages

Developing websites is what I do for a living. So, I am hoping to use my expertise to make Chicago Velocity bigger and better.

You might be wondering what changes will be taking place. Well, I can tell you a few things for certain.

First thing is to move to a different server. The host that CV is on currently is terrible. I will be moving us to my server (I own a server) in the next few days.

Second thing, we will upgrade the forum software to the latest version.

Third, we will be getting a new look. I already have new graphics being developed and new 'skins'.

Fourth, I will be adding features. A good photo gallery for starters. Many other things. For that, please feel free to post in the new Site Suggestions forum.

Fifth, after I get the above completed, I will start promoting this site and getting the name out there.

Ok, I'll end my ramble here. Nice to meet everyone and lets look forward to a great future at Chicago Velocity!

What's involved with the new layout/skins?

Will it be difficult to use? This forum took me about a month to learn how to use it and I still am unsure of small things.. (polls..)

What other changes are you planning?

Are our files currently linked up in all the threads created since this site was thought of and produced going to remain (pics, links, etc..)

Will all of the threads be deleted, or will they be left over?

New emoticons?

It means a new look, new colors, new graphics -- Also, there will be 2 or 3 different styles so you can choose your favorite.

Im not going to change the software, just upgrade it. Everything will pretty much work the same, but there will be new features and things will work smoother / better.

Im not really sure. Some things I will talk about with the moderators, and then, when we come to a consensus, post it to the membership for comment.

Short answer, Yes...

No threads will be deleted. Again, im not changing the site, just upgrading / enhancing it / adding to it.

I hope that answers your questions - ask more if you have them.

Its about time, after being here since 2002, thru the ups and downs, its about time someone took over that can make this site what Ry has always envisioned of it.

I'm all up for changes but the only thing I worry about is that if the site gets too big, and expands beyond the Chicago and Chicago land area that it will loose that kind of small community.

But it is good to see someone with enthusiasm. Let us know what we can do to help

Ok....

We have moved to the new server and upgraded the software. I know, the colors are a little off. I will install a temporary skin to take care of that.

Now the fun starts. Watch in the coming days for new features...

One new feature --

You can now upload signature images directly. You dont need to have them hosted anymore.

You do this by going to your USERCP then choosing "Edit Signature"

Hey Joey, i have a website myself that I am working on and need to get it up and running. Since you're a website guru... What resources are out there, that i can hone my coding skills or just script kiddie modifications?....i've searched and joined quite a few... vbmods, vbadvanced, etc. and i was not very impressed. Or do suggest any good books on the subject?

I don't know about you guys but I just can't wait to see the sponsor adspace and Google adspace on the side of every single page I view and have the opportunity to pay $30 a year for "gold member" benefits like custom user title etc etc.

jchcgo,
I see your "join date" as 04-29-2002.
How come you have no posts for going on 5 years until 9 days ago?
The join date isn't something you decided to just "make up" is it?
