| As Jen mentioned, we use to have these really bright green cards that we use to tag cars and take to car shows and hand off. We brought a lot of members over, but a lot of them also never remained as a long-term member. You also have to consider that some people were annoyed, mad, coming to their cars and having cards on their cars.
Majority of the members came through word of mouth through friends and some through spamming of other car boards either through our link-able signatures with CV logos and what not.
We also use to have a small CV sticker that came in different colors so that I could match the members' car/s. Unfortunaly, they didn't last long when winter came and we scrapped them off within 3 seconds.
One mode of advertising that I think was also effective, was that CV selected a few active members that had extremely nice and clean rides, and they had the honor to place a front (maybe rear too?) windshield decal that read " CHICAGO VELOCITY" and they went to car shows. A lot of the CV members went to the car shows just to support the site.
CV also had a few car shows of it's own where a TON! of people from all sorts of car boards came together. Ask Ryan about the estimated of at least 3-400 cars that showed up, and caused major traffic jam when cops kicked us out.
T-shirts - Great idea but I know that people always back out of from buying them. The hardest thing is being able to please everyone with the shirt design. The other thing was that some sites charged nearly $20 for their shirts leaving a few people not wanting to spend that much for a "CV" shirt. |
