Registration for Basic Rider Courses (BRC) and Experienced Rider Courses (ERC) are accomplished via this web site only. Courses will be closed automatically as they fill up.

Please note the following :

When registering online you will need to provide exact information from your driver's license, plus a home or work phone number and an e-mail address.

In addition:

Registration dates for courses will be staggered.
You may only register at sites beginning on the specified dates. If you attempt to register for a site before it is available, you will receive an error message saying, "Registration for this event is currently not available."
Any registration for sites received in any way prior to the specified opening dates will be returned.
No phone registrations will be accepted.
Transfers can only be done if space is available. (see below)
You will need a credit card to register for a course online. No charge will be made to your credit card until you are officially enrolled into a course. See below for more information on policies regarding deposits.
To register online, click the site you wish to register at. If registration is available, that is, if the date indicated has come and there are still openings, you will be directed to our online registration system. If you try to register for a course that is not available, you will get an error message indicating the schedule is not available.

Course Times:

Weekend BRC Courses: 6-10 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Weeklong Evening BRC Courses: 6-10 p.m. Monday-Friday
ERC Courses: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must be in the classroom for roll call of the first class session or you will lose your seat. No excuses will be accepted.
Go directly to the Course Schedules page.

Only one person per registration form will be accepted, and a person cannot be registered for more than one course through the registration office. A person may attend additional courses as a walk-in student. If you registered for multiple courses you will be CANCELED from all but the first one you registered for.

The Motorcycle Safety Project realizes the limiting of one person per registration makes it difficult for people to register together in courses. However, large numbers of duplicate registrations experienced in previous years (resulting in equally large numbers of no-shows) required this change. This change will result in more people being able to register for courses.

Deposits: Your $20 registration deposit reserves your place in a class. However, you must attend the first class meeting on time to claim your reserved seat. If you are late to the first night of class, your seat will be given to someone on the "walk-in list" and you will forfeit your deposit.

Convenience Fee: University Outreach, Conferencing and Registration Services will include a $3.00 non-refundable fee for the processing of each online registration. This fee will be in addition to the registration deposit being made to reserve a seat in a motorcycle safety course.

Donations/Refunds: You may donate your $20 deposit to the Motorcycle Safety Project so that it may be used to help expand and improve our course offerings and operations. This will help to give many other people the opportunity to share the experience you will have with this course and help them to come into the sport of motorcycling in a much safer manner.

At the end of the course you participate in you will be given a form. To donate your $20 deposit, you will be require to check the appropriate box that indicates your desire to make the donation and then sign the form to acknowledge you are donating your registration deposit. If you elect not to donate the deposit, you must check the appropriate box to indicate you want a refund.

Persons registering online using a credit card will receive a refund in the form of a credit back to the appropriate credit card used to register for the course. There will be no direct transfers of funds to participants with credit card transactions.

Transfers and Cancellations: Transfers can only be made if space is available. You may contact our office to transfer from one course to another, but may only do so once without forfeiting your deposit. Transfers or cancellations must be made at least 72 hours before your scheduled class begins. Pre-registration cancellations and transfers received at least 72 hours before the course starting date will be fully refunded after the course is finished. Cancellations from a course must be submitted to the Motorcycle Safety Project in writing either by e-mail, fax or regular mail. Call (800) 892-9607 to transfer your registration.

Substitutions: There will be NO substitutions for anyone registered for an BRC or ERC course that becomes unable to fill their assigned reserved course position. If a person becomes unable to attend an assigned course, someone will fill the position from the Walk-in list.

Registration Confirmation: Once the registration fee has been confirmed and the registration has been accepted into the system (meaning there was no duplication), a formal confirmation letter and map with directions to the class will be mailed.

Walk-In Student Procedure: Walk-in students will be selected using a lottery process. Those wanting to enroll as a walk-in will be given a two-part ticket. The individual will keep one half and the other half will be put into a container for a possible drawing on open spots. Once roll call is completed at 6 p.m., tickets will be drawn from the container to fill any vacancies.

We covered this in a thread last week. Maybe we can merge the two.

Since I took it last year I can surely tell you:
you only need to wear a long sleeved shirt
they provide the helmets- but you can use your own (DOT/Snell approved) if you want
you can wear any kind of full fingered glove- even cloth gardening gloves
boots and jeans = yes.

im at work and trying to find the thread on this crappy keyboard just sucks...i found it easier to just make a new one...lol...now u guys can see why i have not been able to make it to a shitload of meets...

as far as the helmet...i would rather use my own since i have full gear minus the riding pants with the knee protector...this way im already comfortable in my own gear...but to benifit everyone to make sure they are fully protected...it would be best to wear a leather jacket...no telling who can go down...not everyone has street riding experiance like us..lol

The fastest you will ever go on the private enclosed parking lot is 12-15m.p.h. and only then for a second during the stopping distance test.

Anyone can wear a leather jacket even if it is overkill, but it's not REQUIRED.

Besides leather jackets- there are ballistic nylon motorcycle jackets with high density foam armor inside that someone (like me) would end up buying.

Before you show up:
have the ability to balance yourself such as on a bicycle
know the location and how to operate all of the controls of a motorcycle (by studying the course manual beforehand).

If you guys can't sign up cause they are fully booked, just show up early. They have a list that they start because of no shows. When I went they took like 15 people.

They put the short and/or fat people on the Rebel's. They also have 2 versions of dual-sport bikes (half dirt bike-half street bike). Depending on how tall you are you'll be on those. I was popping wheelies on those and got in trouble.

At my location (second weekend of instruction) there were 2 spots open because of no shows and 40+ people waiting for the "lottery system".
Only plus is those two people don't have to pay $20 to register. Course is completely free.

you're right...BUT you have to go to a DMV, take the written test (to get your permit) AND THEN take the road course THERE (might have to make an appointment) to get your M license.

umm....let me chime in on this. Not EVERY bike will be the rebel 250... They also have a few other bikes (like an old shadow).

wait till midnight the night regestration opens. That's you're best bet. If you wait till sometime in the morning, you're most likely won't be able to regester due to full bookings.

I wish I could take the course again "for the first time", as it was A BLAST!!!

But taking it again would be redundant as I can just go outside and hop on my own bike and ride all day all night on the superslab.
I might go back in a year or two for a refresher or take the Advanced course.

I bought those books Proficient Motorcycling and More Proficient Motorcycling after hearing so much about them from people on any and all motorcycling websites. Very good books, will save my life someday.

rebump for today....

the way to beat just sitting on line for ever is to open MULTIPLE windows and hop inbetween them...they dont go by next in line bullshit because i opened 6 windows and the 3rd window i had open allowed me to register after waiting about 10-15 minutes only...i closed the other windows and let other people get upthe line more...

im in the class for may 18th to the 20...the 2nd week of classes and the weekend before memorial day...im doing it in Elgin...

i got ECC as well. My class is September 28th-30th. I was going to stay up during the opening of the regestrations, but decided i rather have the sleep instead. But as soon as i woke up at 6:30am, i went straight to the regestration website and got my class. hopefully I remember everything. lol.
