my poor thing

man... i bought this thing like 3 months ago and rode it almost every single day up until christmas. Now its been sittin in my yard... and I wanna ride!!

Anyway, its a 2001 f4i, I had a 98 fzr600r before this for 2 months and sold it. I bought it for 2,200 w/ 14k miles. Runs great ,needs little cosmetic work but I wanted to paint the bike white anyway so no problems!

ouch...why dont you invest in a bike cover at least??? Doesn't look like you winterized that bike at all...but then again it's a pretty dark picture.

did you at least disconnect your battery?...and you really should have put a cover on it since its being exposed to the elements...bit to late for the cover though...did you put stable in the tank or at least run it out of gas?

Is that SNOW on your bike?

If it's not being stored you should really get a cover for it.

even a cheap cover would be better than no cover. i got this one cover that i like a lot. i can just cover the bike after riding it all day and not worry about the exhaust burning the hell out of it. but it wasn't that cheap (about $60/$70)

I have a cover, it got blown off to the side the day it really snowed hard. That was what my bike looked like in the morning.

REMOVE the battery and bring it inside the house!!

I rode up to New Years every week but still anytime the overnight temp dipped below freezing I'd take the battery inside.

Storage can be hard on batteries. In fact, non-use can leave them unable to hold a charge.

Store your bike in a place that is always warmer than 32 degrees. If your bike is outside remove the battery from your bike and store it in a location that is always warmer than 32 degrees. This will insure that your battery does not freeze and crack.

If you remove the battery from your bike DO NOT store it on a concrete or metal surface, place the battery on a wood or other non-conductive surface. Batteries stored on concrete or metal will discharge over time.

Place a charger on your battery. Trickle charge your battery at least once a month. A battery that is fully charged will have a longer life and is less likely to freeze during cold winter weather.
Did you put plastic bags over the exhaust outlet and rubber band them/tape them down?
Even stored in the garage in the winter- it's recommended to do that so no moisture get's in the pipe or collects itself in the engine.
I'm imagining you have a puddle of water at the bottom of your header or at least alot in your baffled muffler and moisture all over the place.

I need to start mine...I've been very bad to it this winter. It's in the garage which does stay above freezing, but I did no prep to it for winter aside from leaving the tank nearly empty. She gets an oil change and new pugs before being let out for the spring, so when I have the tank off, I'll drain/clean it out and put fresh gas in there. As soon as I can shovel the snow away to open the garage door, I'll start her up - should be interesting if any of you remember how loud that sucker was.

yea..i gotta change the oil before i take my bike out for the spring....at least when i have the time. this year i'll have even less time to ride the bike (i'd have time probably only on sundays)....but we'll see. at least i'm maintaining the mileage on it.

Well, I tried to start mine on Thursday for the first time and ran the battery down without it even starting. Picked up a Battery Tender Junior last night and threw it on there over night. Just went out to the garage and she started right up on the 3rd try. Let her warm up and idle with the choke off for about 5 minutes. Can't wait for this damn snow to clear out.....
