Thought I'd share... 9 wax test...

Well I was bored yesterday so I decided to go out and test 10 of my waxes/sealants on my mom's 05 Toyota Corolla. (I actually used 10 waxes/sealants but for some weird reason the before/after shots of Poorboy's EXP didn't come out clear at all... hence the 9 in thread title)

The car has never been detailed or waxed and, as you'll see in the pics, it's in pretty bad shape (I'll detail it in a month or so and post pics again)

Products used were KAIO+SG, KAIO, KSG, Meg's 21, Meg's 26, Optimum Car wax, P21S, NXT, Natty's Blue...

I used m/f towels to put the stuff on and wipe off... all of them were left on for about 10-15 mins to dry. Before applying anything, roof was cleaned with Meg's #34.

I did this just to see how much stuff each of these can hide... I used KAIO just to see if there was a big difference between just waxing vs. cleaning with KAIO then waxing... there was!

Pics...

I know there are many variables here, such as the place where the pic was taken on the area for each LSP, but I did try to use the middle of each area just to have somewhat of a consistency...

I rated them like this... not according to only the photos above, but what I saw in person...

1. KAIO+SG
2. KAIO
3. Meg's 21
4. NXT
5. Meg's 26
6-9... KSG, P21S, Natty's and Opt Wax all looked very similar in person and each added a very similar level of gloss to the bad paint... I would say P21S, SG, natty's, then Opt in terms of shine, but it was very minimal.

I concluded that, even if there's no plan to polish/fully detail the paint, a paint cleaner/polish like KAIO is important prior to sealing the paint because, as seen in the pics, it cleans up very small swirls and all of the oxidation/fading that is present.
Also, it appears that Meg's has some nice fillers in their LSPs, which helped hide some of the swirling.

Well, hope this helps someone... like I said, I was bored and decided to see how different LSPs behaved on a badly conditioned 05 Corolla... no hard facts here, just observation...

very cool man.

i have to say the meg's #21 on my car did a great job, but after a week (when i added NXT) it was still very much protecting but didn't feel as nice to the touch. layering NXT on top of clean paint and #21 has proved to be super nice for the last month or two. I'm going to add some more NXT before this weekend.

That's pretty interesting. I have been using some Meguiars wax and it worked pretty well! I thought it only lasted a good 1-2 months too.

How do you feel about some other talked waxes such as: mothers, shit I can't remember about the others, but you know.. lol

The waxes/sealants mentioned above are the ones I use and feel they give me great results. I haven't used Mother's wax so can't comment on that...

I use mothers and I love it! In my opinion, its the easiest to apply and remove, gets rid of the most scratches, even more than scratch X and 3M scratch remover, and leaves my car with a deep dark shine. Give it a try.

What do you mean by "mother's"? wax? polish?

There's no way in hell, or heaven, especially earth, that mother's wax will remove most scratches, especially not more than scratch x and 3m scratch remover... the latter 2 are meant to level the paint and get rid of scratches, while the wax might only hide them very well... after you apply the mother's stuff, buy claybar, tape off a square on your hood, and clay that square... then compare it to the rest of the hood...

again, I'm assuming you're talking about a wax, not a polish, since you said easy to apply and remove

The zaino phenomenon seems to be toning down a bit lately... they have good stuff but it seems like they're marketing everything to be sold together, and most of the stuff is pretty $$$ compared to other stuff on the market that's just as good.
I've never tried it so I can't give an honest opinion, but comparing my own detail work, using Meguiar's, to a friend's who used Zaino, there's isn't much of a difference

I am talking about mothers carnuba wax. Although it may not actually remove scratches, it hides them well enough for me. Not a fan of polishing the car unless I have a buffer.

Big fan of Meg's 26 for a long time. It does seem to need frequent repeating but I like to detail often anyway. FWIW.

I use the Mothers Carnuba Wax, I have steps 1 and 3 I think, although don't quote me on that. Its been a few months since I've used it. But on my black car- it works awesome, and smells wonderful! I do live on gravel but going down the road as slow as possible all I have to do is take out a duster and the dust practically falls off. Even after a few months; I just put my car in the garage for winter.... the rain still ran right off of it. Also rainx glass sealant/ whatever that tiny yellow bottle is... I recommend that- only bad thing is I haven't figured out how to get it all worked in before it gets hazy and my arm starts hurting.
