Rear differential rebuild?

I did some internal swap in my rear differential, and now it's making a whirring noise.. so it looks like I fubar'd the shims. Anyone know any shops around here that can overhaul differentials?

damnit

superior driveline on north ave (near you) is supposed to be quite good. call 'em up... see if they'll help out.

However, consider that you are using the bearings from the j30 diff with unknown miles. it could be a bearing issue, not a shim issue

you think bad bearings would cause that awful whirring noise? it's speed dependant

Bearings could, but I'd wager on shim issues/gears not aligned properly. Check out multistate transmissions on ogden in naperville (across from Gerald nissan), ask for Chris Jennings, and tell him I sent you.

doesn't need it, since the limited slip portion is sealed

Sounds like you didnt check the for proper tolerances on the diff. I know Touge Factory used to install diff internals, but as far as overhaul you have to find a good shop that specializes in it.
