Classic bike showcase at Mid-Ohio

Thousands of classic motorcycle enthusiasts will gather at the American Motorcyclist Association’s Vintage Motorcycle Days at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 25-27. Highlighting Vintage Motorcycle Days is the Swapmeet, the largest gathering of motorcycle collectors in North America. Spread out over 35 acres, classic motorcycle owners can display their collections and potentially add to them. In addition to the Swapmeet, collectors will also be able to bid on classic bikes at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Auction.
Over 60,000 people are expected to visit this year’s Vintage Motorcycle Days. Now in it’s 16th year, the 2008 Vintage Motorcycle Days will feature Triumph Motorcycles as the Marque of the Year. The British brand will featured in its own special bike show and classic Triumph owners can have their restored bikes and memorabilia appraised by Triumph expert Randy Baxter of Baxter Cycles in the Vintage Triumph Roadshow.
“We’ve got everything under the sun, starting with our featured Marque of the Year, Triumph,” says Will Stoner, AMA director of special events. “We are very fortunate to have legendary Triumph riders Gene Romero and Bill Baird as Co-Grand Marshals. They’ll be here to meet fans, sign autographs and answer questions along with Mark Kennedy, Triumph Motorcycles American CEO.”
Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer Kymco is sponsoring several seminars at Vintage Motorcycle Days. Seminars will be led by Ted Simon, motorcycle enthusiast and author of the bestselling book Jupiter’s Travels; restoration experts Bob Vail, John Healy and Don Hutchinson; the founder of Italian motorcycle manufacturer Laverda, Piero Laverda
Other seminars will be delivered by motorcycle builders and authors such as Craig Vetter, Clement Salvadori, Mike Seate, Mark Wilsmore, Zack Coffman and Alice Sexton.
Competition racing fans can also watch classic bikes racing sponsored by the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association. Vintage bikes will compete in both on- and off-road racing.
Those attending Vintage Motorcycle Days can also take part in free demo rides featuring new models from Triumph, BMW, Buell, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco and Moto Guzzi. The three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder will also be available for demo rides.
