| The most stolen vehicles in 2007. The 2008 Hot Wheels theft report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau was recently released. The report covers vehicles stolen in 2007, and similar to previous years, thieves still prefer to steal older models of cars. The most stolen vehicles included 20 year old models, like the 1995 Honda civic, the 1991 Honda Accord, and the 1988 Toyota pickup.
We may think these are low value, worthless autos, and so may the insurance companies. But thieves love them! They are like treasure chests to them. Break these cars up once stolen, and they have valuable parts to sell, such as seats, sound systems, airbags, and many other parts.
The fact of the matter is, these older models were at one time hot sellers. Now they need replacement parts as they start to age. So when the car owner takes his honda into the mechanic to get serviced, the technician is not only looking for parts, he is also looking for the cheapest parts available.
The moral of the story is that old model you have that you take for granted is a jack pot for thieves looking for a good score. The simplest thing you can do outside of the normal precautions car owners take, is to always park your vehicle in well populated public places. |
