wow, thanks for letting us know.
think twice now peoples...
So I'm in the local Jewel last week and bump into a fellow 240sx owner from meets last year. I ask how his swap is going because he had it all planned out pretty well from the start- he was going to have SpeedQuest in Grayslake perform the install- easy enough for him I guess. So he starts to go into detail about what happened, I'll try and remember all the details(there was ALOT) and I've taken a look at the car 2 times:
-car was at the shop for 8 months total , most weeks/month nothing was touched on it.
-car was all scuffed/scratched from people brushing up against it while walking by it (inside I'm guessing?)
- food stains were found inside the car "so strangers were having meals in my car", WTF!
- he dropped the car off with a load of money to get an Skyline RB25 installed.
-came back and an SR20DET was installed instead!
-some reason the shop took that engine out
-put in another SR20DET and needed the car owner to help align it to fit
-that engine came with a black valve cover
-next time a red valve cover was switched onto it
- car owner would drive an hour to the shop after school and beg the shop owner to work on his car because of all the stalling.
-shop owner kept asking for more money
-money was paid but when asked when it'd be finished the shop owner got hostile and told the car owner to "get the fucking car towed outta here if you want".
-finally the car was delivered barely running
- constant stalling/needed to stay on the gas to keep it from stalling
-car owner asked to have the timing checked- eventually had to do it himself
-idle is still way too high
-clutch fluid hard line has a SEVERE "kink"/bend and pedal needs to be depressed 2-3 times to build pressure.
-No speedometer! There's a harness with 2-3 sensors on the transmission that is not there. The starter wire from the battery is included in this missing harness- in it's place there's just one ghetto wire which is enough to get the car running/send power to the starter.
- the coolant hoses from the engine to the heater core constantly pop off (wrong size) and have stranded the car owner many times because of it.
- the custom exhaust is bent/routed in the most f'ed up design I've ever seen- a section of pipe has almost worn through from contacting the ground so much.
When the car owner asks to get stuff finished up the shop owner accuses him of still oweing him a couple grand more + still hostile.
SpeedQuest judging from their fine attention to detail - have no fucking clue what they're doing and don't give a shit.Let their work speak for itself.
I've seen the car and can confirm all this and another shop is going to be finishing up the crap job adding more cost to the big mess. The lack of quality and taking any pride in the work you do and how you treat people who have given you alot of money is jaw-dropping. And delivering a car that is not running even close to right and not having the speedo hooked up?
I have the feeling that the car owner was treated like shit because he was 16 at the time- now 17. I can vouch for his maturity and having a good head on his shoulders. This is his first car and what a nightmare- he mentioned being depressed about the whole thing and it affecting his school etc..- I could understand.
The shop basically took advantage of him.
Legal action should clear this up- if there ever was a case of outright fraud - this is it.
I made this thread in response to someone on CV who is recommending SpeedQuest as a really great performance shop to get work done- I'm just looking out for the rest of CV.![]()

COMPLETE BULLSHIT!! I know exactly who you are talking about and it's completely over-exaggerated!
I know you're prolly just tryin to stick-up for your friend, but you shouldn't be so quick to decide and ridicule until you've gotton the ENTIRE story...from both sides. You need to sort out your FACTS.
I know my opinion doesn't really mean shit on here, but I BACK SPEEDQUEST PERFORMANCE 100%!!
shmoe and rayray, get the whole story from the shops side and let us know, james is just tryin to look out for his freind and us as you stated earlier

well i don't know that shop... and i don't see why someone would fabricate a story like that... so it seems to me that this shop fucked something up.. not good for them.

do you work there shmoe.. or do you own that place..? if you seem to be so close with that shop, then maybe you should have them come defend themself on here. otherwise this story is going to remain existant. i don't see james making some all this business for no reason.

I know these guys and they do outstanding work.....and I'll have them read James comment and if they decide to come on here then that's up to them.Originally Posted by ry@n
well of course it would be up to them. if they care about their reputation, they will defend it. if they don't that shows a whole lot

Right, but James is jumping to conclusion over how someone else told a car story to him.Originally Posted by ry@n
And I don't even think it's his friend, just a 'fellow 240sx owner from meets last year'.
Anyway, not trying to start anything, i'm saying James is not the issue, the story is the issue... which we'll eventually try to sort out.
what exactly did you see and confirm? please be specific...Originally Posted by James
again, not trying to start shit, just trying to sort out...
